Boston on the 4th!

Mike and I have now been in Boston for 3 weeks! Mike started his job a week ago and is loving it so far {whew...that is what we moved here for!} There were a lot of unknowns going into the job so I'm glad Mike is so excited about his job after meeting his boss and team this last week. In the two weeks before Mike started work we were able to play a lot! On the 4th we decided to join the other 800 thousand people in downtown Boston!
We rode the train to downtown Boston. When we showed up at the train station we were the ONLY ones there...we wondered if everyone else knew something we didn't. Luckily we were right on time and caught the next train. We {unknowingly} got off the train one stop late {guess we will know for next year} and ended up walking a long ways...carrying blankets, chairs, and bags in the hot sun.
We found our way into the Charles River parkway where the Fireworks would be lit off. We showed up around 4:30pm and it was already packed. The people around us said they were there at 8am so we were lucky to get seats where we did.
It was a super hot day! The river was lined with boats and kayaks all waiting to watch the fireworks. We walked to Upper Crust Pizza downtown and took a pizza back to eat dinner by the river. It was a great view as we watched the sun go down and listened to the Boston Pops concert going on in the stadium next to us.
The weather report said it was going to be rainy...we made it to the middle of the concert with no rain when they decided to evacuate the park due to lightning and thunder.  It was mass confusion!!! The concert was being broadcast all over the US and apparently switched over to the pre-recorded rehearsal from the night before when they evacuated us. All 800 thousand of us packed up our stuff and left the park. Not sure if the fireworks would be lit off or not they asked us to go into this tunnel to wait out the storm. It was super hot and stuffy down there so we waited it out just outside the tunnel. After 45 minutes of no rain the lightning had calmed down so they let us back into the park {which was just as crazy!}
About 2 minutes into the fireworks it started pouring rain!!! This is the view with everyone pulling out their umbrella's. It was an experience to remember...we had an umbrella but were still soaked!

After the fireworks we spent the next hour waiting in train station with all the other wet soggy people :) We got home at 2am but we loved the whole experience!
